Korosi

Korosi adalah kerusakan atau degradasi logam akibat reaksi redoks antara suatu logam dengan berbagai zat di lingkungannya yang menghasilkan senyawa-senyawa yang tidak dikehendaki. Dalam bahasa sehari-hari, korosi disebut perkaratan. Contoh korosi yang paling lazim adalah perkaratan besi.
Pada peristiwa korosi, logam mengalami oksidasi, sedangkan oksigen (udara) mengalami reduksi. Karat logam umumnya adalah berupa oksida atau karbonat. Rumus kimia karat besi adalah Fe2O3.nH2O, suatu zat padat yang berwarna coklat-merah.
Korosi merupakan proses elektrokimia. Pada korosi besi, bagian tertentu dari besi itu berlaku sebagai anode, di mana besi mengalami oksidasi.

Elektron yang dibebaskan di anode mengalir ke bagian lain dari besi itu yang bertindak sebagai katode, di mana oksigen tereduksi.

Korosi dapat juga diartikan sebagai serangan yang merusak logam karena logam bereaksi secara kimia atau elektrokimia dengan lingkungan. Ada definisi lain yang mengatakan bahwa korosi adalah kebalikan dari proses ekstraksi logam dari bijih mineralnya. Contohnya, bijih mineral logam besi di alam bebas ada dalam bentuk senyawa besi oksida atau besi sulfida, setelah diekstraksi dan diolah, akan dihasilkan besi yang digunakan untuk pembuatan baja atau baja paduan. Selama pemakaian, baja tersebut akan bereaksi dengan lingkungan yang menyebabkan korosi (kembali menjadi senyawa besi oksida).

Induksi elektromagnetik pertama kali dipelajari dan ditemukan oleh Michael Faraday pada tahun 1831. Induksi elektromagnetik atau imbas listrik merupakan pembangkitan energi listrik dari medan magnet. Induksi elektromagnetik terjadi pada suatu kumparan jika ada perubahan jumlah garis gaya magnet yang dilingkupi setiap saat. GALVANOMETER adalah alat untuk menyelidiki besar dan arah arus induksi pada suatu rangkaian. Kita dapat membangkitkan GGL induksi dengan cara berikut. 1. Menggerakkan magnet keluar masuk kumparan 2. Memutar magnet di dekat kumparan 3. Memutar kumparan dalam magnet 4. Memutus-mutus arus listrik yang melalui kumparan. Jika jumlah garis gaya yang dilingkupi kumparan bertambah, jarum galvanometer menyimpang ke kanan. Jika jumlah garis gaya yang dilingkupi kumparan berkurang, jarum galvanometer menyimpang ke kiri. Penyimpangan jarum galvanometer ke kanan dan ke kiri tersebut menunjukkan bahwa GGL induksi yang dihasilkan kumparan berupa tegangan bolak-balik/AC (alternating current). Jika GGL induksi lebih besar, kuat arus induksi yang timbul juga lebih besar. Menurut Faraday, besar GGL induksi pada kedua ujung kumparan sebanding dengan laju perubahan fluks magnetik yang dilingkupi kumparan. Artinya, semakin cepat terjadinya perubahan fluks magnetik, makin besar GGL induksi yang timbul. Adapun yang dimaksud FLUKS adalah banyaknya garis gaya magnet yang menembus suatu bidang. Ada berapa faktor yang menentukan besar GGL induksi yang diketahui dari besar penyimpangan jarum galvanometer. Jika kamu melakukan percobaan ini secara teliti dengan mengubah-ubah jumlah lilitan, kecepatan gerak magnet, dan kekuatan magnet yang digunakan, kamu akan dapat menyimpulkan bahwa besar GGL induksi bergantung pada tiga faktor, yaitu: 1. Jumlah lilitan pada kumparan 2. Kecepatan gerak magnet keluar-masuk kumparan 3. Kekuatan magnet batang yang digunakan. GENERATOR Generator (dinamo) merupakan alat yang prinsip kerjanya berdasarkan induksi elektromagnetik. Alat ini pertama kali ditemukan oleh Michael Faraday. Generator adalah mesin yang mengubah energi kinetik menjadi energi listrik. Energi kinetik pada generator dapat juga diperoleh dari angin atau air terjun. GGL induksi yang ditimbulkan oleh generator AC dapat diperbesar dengan cara: ¤ memperbanyak lilitan kumparan, ¤ menggunakan magnet yang lebih kuat, ¤ mempercepat perputaran kumparan, dan ¤ menyisipkan inti besi lunak ke dalam kumparan. b. Elektromagnetisme

Elektromagnetisme adalah fisika tentang medan elektromagnetik: sebuah bidang dalam fisika, yang mempelajari ruang, yang terdiri dari medan listrik dan medan magnet. Medan listrik dapat diproduksi oleh muatan listrik statik, dan memberikan kenaikan pada gaya listrik, yang menyebabkan listrik statik dan membuat aliran arus listrik dalam konduktor listrik. Istilah elektrodinamika kadangkala digunakan untuk menunjuk kek kombinasi dari elektromagnetisme dengan mekanika. Subjek ini berhadapan dengan efek dari medan elektromagnetik dalam sifat mekanika dari partikel yang bermuatan listrik.
